I'm sure that normally the unit will stay in pre-boot (well it's not a real pre-boot, coz boot.bin is being executed, not bootloader, but USB commands can be accepted, exactly as in the real pre-boot mode) mode just after flashing boot.bin.
Can you please confirm that using a healthy unit? It's not dangerous to flash an original boot.bin alone. Just rename RGN from 082701000620-org.rar to 097201000620.rgn.

Also what about 082701000620-org.rar and the broken unit?

Also can you please flash 082701000760-true.rar and tell me if it stays in pre-boot mode?
    082701000760-true.rar contains the original 827's boot.bin.
I think it's not harmful to flash it again (you've already executed it as ldr.bin).

While waiting for a reply to my previous post, I will continue with kunix's suggestions:

I'm reluctant to flash anything into the healthy nüvi 1490T until I know how to salvage the bricked unit. I did create a backup of rgn 41 of the healthy unit though.

I get the message "No updates are available for your product":

Same happened as in post #14:

    c58k
    .
    c3k4
    .
    lbox

The screen of the unit then shows the text "LOADER" for about 10 more seconds and then repetitively briefly shows "SYSTEM SOFTWARE MISSING" until I disconnect the unit from the PC.

So the 827's boot.bin works fine. This is some good news actually. If nothing else helps, we can use 827's boot.bin, I think.

I guess you renamed RGN taken from 082701000620-org.rar from 082701000620.bin to 097201000620.rgn before flashing.
Please try again without renaming, and check if it shows "LOADER" after flashing.
Renaming was needed only for the healthy device.

Tried again. Here's the sequence of computer screens observed:

    c58k

I clicked "Yes" and then for about half a second I saw "LOADER LOADING..." on the GPS screen.

    c3k4

After this computer screen, it took about 10 seconds for the next computer screen to appear:

    lbox

From the moment LOADER LOADING... had disappeared from the unit's screen, the screen stayed on, but nothing showed up anymore.

Will now continue with loly's suggestion in post #22.
