While waiting for a reply to my previous post, I will continue with kunix's suggestions:
I'm reluctant to flash anything into the healthy nüvi 1490T until I know how to salvage the bricked unit. I did create a backup of rgn 41 of the healthy unit though.
I get the message "No updates are available for your product":
Same happened as in post #14:

The screen of the unit then shows the text "LOADER" for about 10 more seconds and then repetitively briefly shows "SYSTEM SOFTWARE MISSING" until I disconnect the unit from the PC.
