OK, thread marked [Solved]! But let's not close it in case some other poor soul needs some black magic exorcism. A lesson here for us all that sometimes 'foreign' fw bin files can be flashed to the wrong unit if they're in the HWID folder, and that some bins will and some bins won't. I've been following this thread with some interest.

PS: Would you like an old post somewhere deleted so that your post above becomes 666 kunix? [A rhetorical question, wouldn't wish to spoil the 'dark magic']. On a serious note, are you able to patch ALL boot bins to execute such non-standard rgn writing or is it possible only on some?

I'm pretty sure, I can make xrgn command write to any region if this command is implemented at all, including region 12 (this would make boot.bin crash, but anyway).

Over-USB region writing (updater.exe) and reading (gda.exe) has some prohibited regions too. And it's a different story, it's not like update.txt commands. I'm not so sure in this case.

In both cases region data is written using HWM_write_rgn function, which has some limitation too. And the way it works exactly is like unexplored space for me.

Well, it's mostly Greek to me but eye-opening just the same.

Umm, maybe Loly could learn that. In my case it would be easier to teach me to tap dance juggling a running chainsaw and three live monkeys while eating custard. I'm content to feed from the crumbs dropped from the rich man's table ... speaking of which, weren't you going to write some advanced tutorials some time back? Perhaps more than a mere passing mention of this 'magik' should also be included? [Better weigh in here too Caty, my hints are often too subtle .....].
