So, getting iGO8 to run was no big deal, thanks to the excellent help provided here! Using Portsplitter I was able to set up GPS reception (Port 7, 4800 Baud).
But how about TMC? Any way to make that work too under iGO8?
Thank you! I was aware that you may need an external TMC-option if your device doesn't offer it. But doesn't the 40 Plus come with TMC?
To quote Pocket-Lint:
"The traffic aspect of the 40 Plus comes by way of the RDS-TMC system using an FM radio connection which is built into the 12v connector."

But I haven't found a method to detect and use the TMC-device under iGO8!
Actually, TMC DOES work under iGO8. I've been using it for over 10 years by now. To this very day with two different WinCE-devices - Medion and MDA 3.
To quote from the thread you mentioned:
"TMC service does not work on the Primo program. This is not the fault of the program, the TMC server does not work. The Nextgen program must be used, there is no other solution.."
Primo is NOT iGO8.
The Medion GoPAL had a similar configuration and it works there too (or better has worked for years). But I remember there was also a patch required before iGO8 would recognize the GPS/TMC-devices. So maybe same problem here. Too bad PortSplitter is GPS-device specific.
Well @ThePatcher, is there any real difficulty in showing screenshots?
What screenshots?
This is a REQUEST thread how to get TMC running under iGO8 on a Navigon 40 Plus.
There must have been other people who wanted to get TMC running as the device CLEARLY has TMC-functionality. And if not the 40 Plus than maybe one of the others of that generation under WinCE. Quite a lot of them are VERY similar in regards to hardware.
To elaborate... first I got the menu package from Boki_Srb (posting #2):

There is a working iGO8-package from stevoxxxx (posting #6) from this thread:

Anyway, start with Boki_Srb's "Storage Card Navigon 40 Premium WinCe6":
This contains everything required and works fine on my Navigon 40 Plus - after some script-tweaking (Skin.ini & SysInfo.ini). Good work by Kopča!
PortSplitter (or more correctly "Port.exe") needs to be started once to set the GPS-device up properly. So best to have PortSplitter as a startable app in the start menu to access it easily. Port 7 and 4800 baud seems to be correct for the 40 Plus. (And the settings are stored once you exit PortSplitter properly.)
Next you put the Start-EXE into the scriptline before you launch iGO8:
Command = \Storage Card\iGO8\PortSplitter\Start_iGO8.exe
"Start_Primo.exe" from the Portsplitter-directory was renamed to "Start_iGO.exe". The same goes for the script "Start_primo.mscr" to "Start_iGO8.mscr".
You have to tweak the script too:
RunWait("\Storage Card\PrimoYes\Primo.exe") to RunWait("\Storage Card\iGO8\iGO8.exe")
This way Port.exe is loaded into the background - WITH the settings - before iGO8 starts.
And don't put too big Speedcam.txt-files on the sd-card or the 40 Plus will run out of memory when iGO8 starts up for the first time!
And that's it.
Setting up iGO8 on Port 7 at 4800 Baud will get me GPS-reception. I tested iGO8 (with the dimka-script) and it worked flawlessly! Except for TMC.
Now if I remove the SD-card the 40 Plus will load the installed Navigon-software (from internal memory). And if I connect the 40 Plus to its Navigon-branded car loader (with a 12V plug) the second "line" of the cable will be the TMC-antenna.
There is no EXTRA USB-device integrated into the cable. So it's only an antenna! I took a a multimeter to measure it through, there is only normal resistance and nothing that draws power.
Should TMC be provided via the same port as GPS, there is the option to edit iGO8's sys.txt manually.
pdamill had a thread on this topic, alas it is now 404. But I kept the important parts (thank you, bozi):
[tmc]
port="COM,x"
source="gns"
baud=38400
gps_source=1
Important part is "gps_source". "1" means only 1 port for GPS/TMC and "0" 2 individual ports for GPS & TMC.
So, how can the Navigon TMC-device be identified? Is there an app for WinCE that shows the devices and their ports?
