YES there is an internal micro card with the BASE MAP lucky for me got another unit for $30 and copied the internal card to a new one installed it to replace the corrupt card like you tried all my tricks of recovery format NO LUCK now have 2 head unit working perfect with 2020 maps
Yet to do this move the Camera POI and or other up a directory CARD\Garmin\camera.poi did hear KENWOOD you have to put here next time you go maps UPDATE it will then copy to the internal micro card
I purchased off ebay an extension micro cable when it arrives will take out head unit again take off the top remove CD player and plug the cable into the slot reassemble after unit back just have to on left side of console near glove box have access to the card with out removing head unit ever again any poi updates or map errors card removal made easy
