Try to flash 2.8 again in pre-boot mode to see if you can get it to stay on without rebooting.
After Flashing GarminCure3 in "cure" mode you must flash again in "original" mode but I think that you already know that.
Cure mode is only to give you access to Mass Storage Mode.
You could also try to flash some very old firmware, this has shown some success.
