Another [even less skilled layman's] thought on that Dasil. The problem would still exist regarding registration and unlock keys missing from the generic rgn41. I would think that unless they are also stored elsewhere other than in 41 being unable to recreate unknown codes is a real problem for [official] map updates, particularly LM units without a GarminDevice.xml backup.
