Yes the procedure is exactly the same, just substituting the relevant firmware boot and fw_all bin components from nuvi 2797 and dezl 760 as you've described above which is the safest method of course. It would be even safer to save the RGN file as 151701000470.rgn before flashing with Updater.exe. Complete conversion should also be possible to dezl HWID 1516 however that's intrinsically less safe, and be aware i don't have a 2797 available so i'm unable to test either method beforehand. BTW, none of the internal links in post #1 for backup nonvol, RGN_Tool or Updater.exe are 'dead'. Also they can be found via our Indices in any case as can the links for all current firmwares be found in the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].![]()
Please keep in mind that although this should be without problem, any risk is by necessity taken solely by you. Please report back the results if you proceed with the conversion. I'd be particularly interested if the BC20 backup camera works if you intend using one. It may be locked out from 2797 by either firmware or differing pinouts, or it just may be that Garmin wants ppl to think that it doesn't work with 2797.
Because the Lifetime Maps subscription is tied to the Unit's ID number which doesn't change, you will continue to receive them and the ancillary files as usual even if the unit's HWID were to change on full conversion. Just in case you missed the notes at the base of Method 1 in the initial post, be aware that if you update software by GE or WU then it will download any new unit firmware for the current HWID so if that's the nuvi's 1517 the unit will be reconverted back to a 2797.
