No worries Ron, i thought that was probably the case [and hoping so, because the 2nd scenario wasn't a good one, lol]. No need to thank me for the memory lession, it's a bl**dy wonder i remembered at all.
You may be able to return the favour and test something for me. I don't have access to a GW so i'm unable to test a theory. On nuvi and similar units it's possible to have two different maps covering the same area but only one selected to use for navigation. However the POIs from both maps then will appear on the screen and therefore it's possible to select a poi from the deselected map and navigate to it on the active map. 'Unofficial' unlocked maps on GW Navi CF cannot be searched by POI because the keyboard greys out as you'd be aware from your reading. My theory is that perhaps having an 'official' map on the card with the unlocked map may just overcome this and allow search of a poi on the official map to then navigate to on the unlocked map.
If you're prepared to test, you'll need to combine a recent NT unlocked map with the old non-NT map which was on the CF card [hope you did a backup]. If you have gmap versions of both you can do that with MapInstall and select smaller areas only where you are [MB = Manitoba, maybe?] to send to a small CF card. If you have to combine the full images with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] then you'll need a 4GB card. My StreetPilot 2610 needs to have one deselected manually, GW navi is loosely based on SP2610 so you'll probably have to uncheck the non-NT before testing.
If you're able to help but need some more assistance let me know.
