Many thanks for GarminCure3 tool so I can communicate with my nuvi 255 again. I updated the cure and my XP pc recognized my nuvi but I couldn't access the files in the directory without my computer hanging. I was also unable to copy the contents of the nuvi for some reason in order to create backup files. So in frustration I just decided to format using RMPREPUSB at these settings: Max/GARMIN/Set part as non bootable/MS DOS Bootable/Boot as FDD/Fat 32 and hope for the best. Unfortunately my nuvi now does not respond when I attempt to turn it on or off or attempt to pre-boot. It is stuck on unless I let it die or take it apart and disconnect the battery. So I am unable to get GarminCure3 to communicate in order to reload the original firmware. I've been reading about loading the firmware using an SD card but I'm not sure how to proceed.
Any assistance to get my nuvi 255 up and running again would be greatly appreciated.
No matter what I do the power button has no effect with one exception. When I left the device alone for a while, perhaps an hour or two, I saw that it shut off by itself. I then turned it back on but then the button has no effect again. The reset button works but again the power button does not work and I can't do a pre-boot.
Do you get Garmin Splash Screen ? (Logo)
If you cannot get the device into pre-boot mode it will be difficult to fix

The Garmin logo appears but I can't do the left corner/power on because the power button seems to be unrecognized by the device. Did I screw soething up in formatting it?
At work now so I can't download it but I'll try it when I get home. Thanks.
Unfortunately it didn't solve the problem. I put the files in my SD card, powered off the device by pushing the reset button (nothing else will turn it off), put in the SD card, and turned on the device. Nothing happened except the Garmin screen popped and nothing more. My attempts at a pre-boot are also unsuccessful.
