Change the screen resolution of the sys file and try
Place the marker_ ;_ in front of the dpi = "auto"
Remove the tag _;_from the front ;dpi=320
Or choose other values so you get the right accuracy for you

the pictures shown both of them are using the same screen resolution, therefore changing screen resolution has nothing to do with this.

Then please tell us, are both screens from same device, but different skins? Or same skin on different devices?

Both screens are from the same device, the left screen is showing Pongo skin and the right one is showing Modified Default skin. The screen resolution of the device is 800x480.

Then try to change resolution of screen only for Pongo skin. Put resolution settings from sys.txt in plugin.ini from the_skin_by_pongo.zip

for the date announcement, be careful with the separator of the date in regional settings...
work for me with - or . but not with /

I do not believe this is the issue as all the other screens are fine, I believe it is to do with how the screen layout is done for that screen including fonts used. I would like to know how this done and where this is defined so that I can adjust these settings.

Does anyone know how the screen layout is achieved?

In the first image you are using the plugin grid_menu_layout ,maybe your software is wce!
To get the same search screen in the second image activate the plugin grid_menu_layout and add the sys

[interface]
show_scroll_button=1

If your device is wce and with 800x480 screen modify in sys dpi=auto to dpi=240
