I do not see how it's possible to get more space when you just move those 3 fields from the side to bottom (taking the current street spot) and still have current street shown? It might "look" cleaner to you, but it still take same space.
Font's can be changed from within skin or outside quite easily. It's not hard to even change the skin yourself to "fix" some minor issues you're having trouble with. And you're right about few skins being "sloppy", I won't named them. But they do include nonsense features I feel not "professional." (*sic* animated policemen)
Actually, Decent is not "popular" compared to other skins, check the posts in any forums. I'm not saying it's bad, some people like to eat at McDonald's instead of Burger King's. It's a personal preferences, which I respect. But when you rationalized with some info that's not quite true, it's not right.
I have tried pretty much all versions of iGO/Primo/NextGen ranging from 320x240 to 1024x768 device resolution. And I can tell you that NextGen has the most professional looking native skin.
Yes, it has average driving speed (that is the small blue number above the speed in the pics above) - I actually disable it - I have no use for that data. I also disable the compass in the upper-right hand corner and the 2d/3d button next to it (again, for the "clean" look).

You get more map space because the Decent skin puts the three data fields *and* the current steet name in the same amount of space as the default skin uses for just the current street name (plus it displays the date and time at all times which is very beneficial, at least on my car 2DIN). But you free up the space used by those three fields on the right-hand side of the screen. PLus, it just looks nicer! I just find that the Decent skin provides a lot of options (and even "hidden" hotspots) while keeping the screen as clean as (or cleaner) than stock. I've never found another WinCE skin that can do the same thing as cleanly as the Decent skin (I think Ive tried them all). I never said it was the most popular skin, just that it's pretty popular (I get sharing requests for it almost daily!). Someone even developed a motorcycle-specific variant of it.

Regardless, you use what you like and I'll use what I like - then we're both happy. :-) Since there isn't a fully cracked version of NextGen for WinCE, it's not even an option - no interest (and didn't particularly like the version that I did test anyway - found that it wasn't very "finger friendly" on my 7" 800x480 car radio, which is the only place I use GPS.
