Thank You Catymag for the information and the How to!
The more I read the more I get lost! LOL
When I get out I'll pick up a 4gig SD card but how do I format it to be sure its 32 bit? A computer that has 32 bit Win XP I'll use that computer to format the SD card.
Copy and save the 2009 .img
In the Garmin folder of the gps rename it to gmapprom.img Is this the old 2009 map? I copied and saved but haven't deleted it.
In the Garmin folder of the sd card rename it to gmapsupp.img
    Thank You --Your the GREATEST!!!!!!

Does merging maps (i.e. in effect making them bigger) make the GPS operate more slowly? Currently already the maps load v. slowly on the screen.
    Tx.

    Hi all,
I have downloaded CNEUNT 2012.10 from Multiupload. All the files: mapsource, ASR, G2S, JCV, etc. Unlocked them, but when I wanted to copy into may device, Nuvi 3790, something happened and device cannot see the maps. I copy it into System (hidden folder), both gmasupp.img and gmap3d.img. I have tried and recopy all of them. Same, nothing. If I put these files on a SD card it works OK. At least gmapsupp.img.
    What I have done wrong?
    Tx.

Hi sorry , i'am trying since some weeks to give a second life to my NUVI 660T FM but i can't , i downloaded from here the CNEUnt 2015.2 unlocked img , putted this img on a sd card in a garmin folder ; when i open it with basecamp patched i don't see how to send this map on my device although it's listed on basecamp ; so i tryed tu put directely the sd card on the gps unit but the map isn't detected , also i 'm asking my self if there are not some files missing on my device ( because of older manipulations ) please can you look at the picture a post here and tell me where to find missing files and if my trouble can come from those missing files??
thanks for helping me , i would like so much that this devices works again...

when you format an sd you'll have a menu, choose fat 32-- that's ok for sd

the maps on nuvi devices must be named gmapprom.img, this is the name it recognize as first map.
In the sd just gmapsupp.img is recognized, but put it in a folder Named Garmin and.... just one map per sd

You can only have ONE supp map on your SD card. You can create multiple files with the same name, but u have to create folders for them. When you want to use that particular mapset, then you rename the one in use and copy over the oneyou want to use. It's really stupid of Garmin to have the conventions set up this way, but that's what we have to go by.

Actually things get quite complicated if you wish to merge several maps and you have installed and are running everything from the card.

New 1XX0 series 13X0 14X0 nuvies use different naming convention.
inside system hidden folder, they only support gmapprom.img and gmapprom1.img .
But if you just create new folder named map , you can put ANY.img file inside and it'll work.
By ANY i mean any name numbers letters combination, also it can support a lot of maps i've dropped 10 files inside, and they all worked !! The only positive development in new 1XXX series IMHO
