There are several MapSet that are supported in Garmin Nuvi. Not all are suitable. Below are the Format, and their sequence

    Nuvi Internal Memory

    1 gmapprom.img - Preloaded Map
    2) gmapprom1.img - Preloaded 2 Map (If there is)
    3) gmapsupp.img - Secondary Map
    4) gmapoem.img - OEM Supp map (Unable to tick or untick it)
    5) gmapsup2.img - Secondary 2 Map (Older Model?)
    6) gmaptz.img - Time Zone Map
    7) gmap3d.img - 3D Image Map (7x5 Series)
    8) gmapbmap.img - garmin Base map

    Storage Card :
    1) gmapsupp.img - Secondary Map
    2)gmap3d1.img - as second 3D Buildings Map (7x5 series )

    On my nuvi 775T, both...
    gmap3d.img - 3D Image Map (7x5 Series)
    &
    gmap3d1.img - as second 3D Buildings Map (7x5 series )
...are on the Nuvi Internal Memory (with their associated map IMG files).

Shipped from Garmin, it has CNNA (gmapprom.img) & CNEU (gmapprom1.img) set up that way. Both of their JCV files are in the JCV folder within the Garmin folder, on the nuvi internal memory as well.

gmapsup2.img does not work on the nuvi internal memory for either my 255W or 775T.

What about the .sum files? Are they necessary or can you delete them?

One more thing. Is there a way to you have multiple gmapsupp.img files on your SD card that can be accessed by your Nuvi without always having to rename them?

    to unlock an unlocked IMG
rename the map gmapsupp.img and unlock with jetmouse keygen creating the unl file with notepad
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

on jetmouse keygen v1.5 put either the 10 digit gps unit id number (will be unlocked only in your gps)or the sd serial # (it will be unlocked in any gps you put the sd card
under-select map product --on the bottom ---custom map set---add the maps FID# also called mapid #

click generate a few times on the bottom-all those numbers will unlock the map--copy that 25 digit number into the gmapsupp.unl file --- don't add a enter --just 25 digits on the first line ----
on a sd card create a garmin directory--in that directory copy your gmapsupp.unl file (unlock file) and the gmapsupp.img (g2 map)
When you save the .UNL file in Notepad, be sure you set the "Save as type" to "All Files", not "Text Documents".

Put the map and unlock file in a folder named Garmin in your sd

Hi I managed to load the map in to Garmin directory after I renamed it as gmapprom1.img its seems to be operating OK and my UK map is also still in the unit. so I am happy and will go around and test the map and report on its performance

    Thank you

Default SD memory card for NUVI 260

What format is needed on the SD card for the NUVI 260 to read it?
Is there a maximum size in Gig's the NUVI will understand?
After I change the file name on the unlocked Garmin City Navigator North America NT 2010.30 to gmapsupp.img ( Secondary Map) Just copy to the SD card.
Do I have to delete the 2009 map for the NUVI(space is to small in the NUVI for an exchange) to default to start the 2010 map?

I also have a NUVI 1490T, in the tools it lists it 's 3D! also the advertisement speaks of Lane Guidance, is this correct or the unit is new and not listed as so? Set me straight I just bought it and got the Free update to the Garmin City Navigator North America NT 2010.30 from the 2009.
Thank You in advance for the help and the GREAT site and people!

First backup you old map, then delete it from you nuvi, you can try to delete in the new one, voices files you dont need, to have it smaller, but I dont think you'll have room enough, better to put it in an sd and eventually ,put in your device pois ,vehicles ,speedcams or may be a guide----

in the garmin folder of the gps rename it to gmapprom.img
in the garmin folder of your sd card rename it to gmapsupp.img
remove or deselect any other maps displaying the same area---

the limit is 2024 map segments and 4 gb (fat32)----

to see all your new nuvi files change folder options to view all hidden files on your pc
