Posted photos show some text above logo when entering pre-boot, that was the rationale for my conclusion. Did not find any part of instructions -explicitly- saying no indication will be visible on screen. You may want to improve instructions.

Anyway, now I know better.
I don't think you do know any better and shooting the piano player is never a good idea mate, unless you actually can play it better yourself. The instructions for nuvi 50 [part of the xx series] are as follows in Post #1:
Pre-Boot for navigators nuvi 30, 4x, 5x:

1. Turn off the navigator.

2. Press the upper left corner of the screen.

3. Turn on the navigator still holding the upper left corner of the screen
No mention of 'power button' in those instructions, as there is for the fundamentally different nuvi 5x0 which you quoted. Therefore the default method to turn on your 50 in preboot mode is what's applicable as i first pointed out to you in post #52. That's shown in red at the top of the list for very good reason. As to the text shown on the device screen, it's when flashing with updater.exe when 'Loader' and 'Software Loading' show. Most units in preboot show nothing at all, some may show 'system' depending on their state but that's all.

If you wish to get world-best advice on fixing Garmin devices best play a bit nicer and lose the attitude, otherwise look elsewhere. Our instructions will remain unchanged regardless. This thread has been viewed by thousands of members and guests the vast majority of whom it's reasonable to assume have a bricked device but have fixed it without even having to post.

Say sorry a bit and we might still help you. Fixing a badly formatted device is actually one of the easiest fixes.
