My 2557LMT (US, HWID 1582) with software version 4.8 and now the latest 5.0 loads maps unlocked by gimgunlock without any problem.

I have (HWID 2077) sw 5.30 only
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

HWID 1582 it's a different device firmware, don't try to flash it in your nuvi or you'll brick it probably.

Sorry, I hadn't seen your reply here yet.
I'll try with nuvi2xx7and2xx8_530.rar then, this time with Webupdater, and not with Garmin Express :-)

From main screen ['Where To?/View Map' page] press and hold the battery symbol in upper RH corner for ~6 seconds to enter hidden menu > press either 'next' or 'back' repeatedly to reach 'Version Information' page > Start Test > More and look at first line: Boot BLK Bxxxx-00 etc. The four numbers 'xxxx' represent your HWID. Alternatively, look in a backup or connect unit in MSM to PC. Browse to Garmin root folder, look for GarminDevice.xml, open it with a web browser or text reader and search for '<PartNumber>006-Bxxxx-00</PartNumber>' near beginning of file.

GPS firmware 5.08
So this device can no longer use any unlocked map right?

I have a built in U.S. map and I wanted to have EU map with it, is buying the map online the only way to make it work?

Firmware version of 7.40 indicates it's maybe a C4 unit with HWID2077 and if so you're out of luck. Please read [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] in gimgunlock thread, in particular:

If you have 2xx7 (8) (PartNumber> 006-B1582-00), works
If you have 2xx7 (8) (PartNumber> 006-B2077-00), doesn't work.

Note: V7.40 is no longer in the changelog for C4 firmware, so it would seem it was not issued or if it was issued it was dropped [progression was V7.30 to V7.50]:

Some fw versions are solely 'OEM', i.e. factory loaded only to new units but never issued publicly. Please look at your unit's .System folder, if it has GUPDATE.GCD file in it please backup the file before updating the unit and please advise us here.
