Yes, you are on the wrong track about SendMap. It sends an already fully compiled IMG file to a device. Read this: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Basically it simply sends an IMG to the device, just as previously described for the other methods, i.e. by command line using WebUpdater, or flashed directly by Updater.exe to a region using an RGN file.

The official Garmin programs, MapSource and MapInstall, both use mapping data previously installed on your computer (i.e. from a GMAP folder/PC Install Files) to select parts (i.e. map 'tiles') from that data to be then sent as an IMG which the program compiles 'on-the-fly'.

This is what I am attempting to accomlish. I want to build the PC install exe file that will load my gmapsupp.img file into Mapsource in the same manner the garmin install dvd would do it - if I had it. Does that make sense? Thanks for the help
