@babj615,
What ever makes you boot float do it mate.
I am just pointing out what I have run into.
You have the GPSMAP 66 in you hand when you are looking for a Geocache being able to use one of the keys that are near your thumb makes more sense.
Be it you right hand or your left hand.
Reaching for the top of the 66 is a lot harder to do. You have to move your hand up to the top to press the power button.
Then move back down to get to the other keys to zoom in or out on the map.
The GPSMAP series had the power button on the side it is only the new 66 that they put it on the top.
Again a waste of time.
Like I pointed out in order to get the so called better battery life you have to turn off all the things you would want to use.
These were selling points that Garmin made a big deal about.
Do not use WIFI to download Geocaches.....
Do not use Bluetooth. Only for data exchange with Garmin Explore, otherwise disabled.
Do not use any of the GPS satellites other than GPS only.
Do not use the magnetic compass.
Sensors: Off (saves battery), except a tempe sensor (occasionally)
Spoiler: (Senors)
If you want to keep it in a backpack go right ahead.
Then you have to stop and take your backpack off and unzip and drag the GPSMAP 66 out.
Why even have it on????
Plus Garmin has a Backpack holder also.

Keeping it near you is the smart thing not sticking it in a backpack that is a complete waste of time.
You do not put your Car GPS in the trunk of the car..... then stop open the trunk and check what exit to take.
I have been hiking since 2007 with my first eTrex and always has in hanging around my neck so I could get to it quickly.
The same for the GPSMAP 66s you want it near you either on your belt or on you backpack.
You want to keep your GPS Unit in a place where you can not get to by all means do it.
