    The basemap supplied in the factory to modern automotive devices is a Worldwide Autoroute DEM Basemap. It is never updated by GarminExpress or earlier map/software updaters. Many years back there were 3 regional basemaps when devices had very small memories. Atlantic, Americas and Pacific basemaps. All three do have rudimentary data for the other two regions however so in that sense are "worldwide" anyway. Here is the direct link to the thread for the latest version 5.01: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. In the initial post there look behind the Spoiler and you'll see three RAR files attached (Parts 1, 2 & 3), download them all into the same folder then double-click on 1 and the other 2 will also extract to give you "gmapbmap.img".

    The basemap does NOT go in the device's Garmin folder, that's only for older devices. In yours it must be placed in the .System folder. Set your device to Mass Storage Mode and set your PC to see hidden system files as detailed in the initial post of the other thread I linked in P#2 & P#4 above, this one: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. In particular, do this: Control Panel>Category>Appearance and Personalization>Show Hidden files and folders; and then you'll see this window [named File Explorer Options in later Win versions]:
    [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
    You can also get there by Control Panel>Large/Small Icons>File Explorer Options (or Folder Options in earlier OSs)>View.
    Set it up as above then you can see the device's .System folder in Mass Storage Mode. Place the gmapbmap.img into the .System folder.

    There is never a reason to re-format the internal file system unless the device has been bricked by an inappropriate format or by a corrupt file or files which cannot be easily determined. Usually if a device is misbehaving it can be simply rectified by a hard-reset or better still by clearing it's non-volatile memory.

    I didn't find any info about the map update for Motorrad navigation. Is it okay with standard Europe NT maps or it has some limitations? I know there are some problems with the Goldwing and NT maps (POI search doesn't work if I'm not mistaking)..

    Thx for any inputs and sorry for hijacking this thread..

    @janch
    It depends which Motorrad Nav model how many hoops you have to jump thru using 'unofficial' mapping. Some are quite old however as far as i can recall none have the problems which are reported for Honda Goldwing Nav units using unlocked NT maps. If you need more info tell us the model. I think all the Motorrad Nav are zumo based whereas the GW Navs are StreetPilot related.
