I've re-formatted as I didn't have MS-DOS Bootable selected. When I connect now with setting 'MTP Auto Detect' instead of 'MTP USB Device' in the Device Manager it says 'BMW Motorrad Navigator V' which is progress.

But it is still not found in Garmin Express...
If I set the device to Mass Storage as per your link I assumed it will just set the drive as a USB storage device. I didn't think it was recognised by Garmin Express in this mode but I will try and report back.
