Firstly, the other poster in the linked thread had a faulty format and so re-formatting correctly with RMPrepUSB would have worked for him to re-enable Mass Storage Mode (MSM).
Next, your Navigator V isn't 'bricked', it is simply just missing the necessary files to use. You actually don't need someone with another Nav V to give you the files because you can get all of them (except a basemap) from GarminExpress which should see your device if it's indeed capable of booting to the "Where To?/View Map" Screen. Also once your device is recognized in MSM (not MTP, i.e. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], assuming you're correct that it is an MTP device) and you've set your PC to see hidden system files so that the device's .System folder is accessible then you can manually add a [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
I don't have that device however i'm happy to help you further with this if needed, i think the Nav V is actually a modified zumo from memory. Please read the first linked thread about setting it up for MSM if required and also the necessary PC settings. Post again if you're still needing assistance.
