    @Butters
Sorry, I'm working, writing on the phone.
That's all I can write about.
    Can't recover from SD card?
The laptop does not recognize it because it constantly restarts.

The Hungarian VPM file is not compatible with the Asian firmwares. When an essential or selected file can't be loaded on boot, the device might either freeze on the Logo screen or (as in your case) it will abort the boot cycle and try to start again indefinitely (i.e. it bootloops).

The incompatible VPM file must be removed to repair it. The device won't be able to read from SD card to do it by use of "del" TXT command because as you've found out it's not getting far enough into the boot cycle for that to happen. The ONLY other way is to load cure firmware so that it can be again seen by a PC in Mass Storage Mode. To do it we have to use Updater.exe for flashing the cure fw and Updater.exe uses only PREBOOT mode. So check that it can be seen by PC in preboot. To easily and quickly check that, follow this exactly:
    • Ensure it's fully OFF. You can force it fully OFF by holding the power button to the left until the screen goes totally black. You may have to hold it for up to 10 seconds or as much as 30 seconds. Immediately it goes blank let the button go back to the central position.
    • Connect a 'known-good" miniUSB cable to a REAR USB2 port of your PC (not thru' a hub and don't use USB3)
    • Open Device Manager on the PC and leave it visible on the desktop
    • Hold the top left hand corner of the nuvi's screen firmly and plug the microUSB plug into it then quickly slide the power button to the RIGHT to lock it
    • If you have windows sounds enabled you'll hear the device connection tone and also see "Garmin Devices" appear in Device Manager
    • The nuvi should stop bootlooping and stick on the logo screen with "Loader" dancing on the screen for a while
    • Disconnect from PC then force it off again.

First Question: Let me know if the above does or doesn't work. If it can still attain preboot (and yours should be able to) then we can fix it very easily. Most bootlooping devices can still attain preboot provided there's no damage to the flash chip.

Second Question: I also need to be sure that you flashed FULL SG/MY firmware which resulted in a HWID change to 0930. If you flashed a HYBRID firmware i need to know how you made it and EXACTLY what you used, even if you still changed HWID to 0930. Give me a link to what you used in either case please.

    Hi!
We have successfully stopped loading the device by pressing the power button as described. In the device manager, Garmin!
According to the first post, full SG / MY firmware was installed and changed to HWID 0930.
    What's next, please take steps!
    Thanks!
But you can only stop the loading, the device will not start. And the laptop doesn't recognize it as a drive either. Visible only in Device Manager.

It's not intended for the device to start yet. Also it's only necessary by that test to see that it can enter preboot. In this next step below we'll try to re-enable Mass Storage Mode so it's then visible as a drive in Windows Explorer. Take it step at a time .

Download this RAR file: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    Then follow this:
    • Extract "QuickCure for 0930.rar" somewhere convenient on your PC to find the folder "QuickCure for 0930"
    • Open the folder, drag 093001000270.rgn onto Updater.exe, select the "USB Device" radio button and leave the GUI open and visible on your desktop
    • Connect the nuvi to the PC exactly as described before in Post #102, watching Updater's GUI
    • IMMEDIATELY you see the device's details appear in the window next to "USB Device" click "OK" or hit the Enter key on your PC's keyboard
    • Keep holding the screen until Updater gives 'success' message.

The device should not bootloop but it also won't go past the logo screen, however it should now have Mass Storage mode enabled and be recognized in Windows Explorer. You can now locate and remove the Hungarian VPM file from the Voice folder.

Keep in mind that with cure firmware loaded the device won't boot past the logo screen. This is intentional so that it can access MSM for removal of the offending file.

Once you've removed the VPM file, you need to decide if you want to stay with SG/MY 0930 or return to US/EU 0827 because you must finally load the original firmware accordingly, again by Updater.exe. Ask questions if unsure about anything before proceeding or you might permanently brick it. If you decide to go back to 0827 you'll have to remove the SG/MY Voice and Text folders before that flash and later replace the US/EU ones.

    All right.
Now I have to go because I'm a bus driver, I'll leave and do it in the evening.

    Hello!
We did it based on the description.
    I opened the rar.
I pressed the power button long.
    The computer recognized it.
I deleted the voice and text folder.
I restarted it and turned it on.
    I converted it to 255w.
I replaced the logo bint with the SD card with the original one from the Chinese.
    I upgraded to 465.
With Garmin Express I updated the audio file.
    He's working fine now.
I promise not to install any other firmware.
Thank you very much for your help.
I am eternally grateful for it.
    Good evening!
    Lezli.

    Hi!
Are the nuvi 255 and 255w voice and text files / folders the same, can I copy them?
Because I thought Garmin wouldn't be viable and I deleted it!

    Hello everyone!
I got a Garmin 245w nuvi 2W Series S4 V2 2GB. I wish I could convert it to 465! Can it be solved in some form? Thanks!

If it's a device with HWID 0827 you can convert to nuvi 456. You've asked previously in this thread some months ago so please read again those posts, everything is there.
