Thanks for the reply (I believe we are also chatting in the TT NDS forum).
I will post my TT Go questions here going forward. I don't want that "angry guy" yelling at me... LOL
Anyways.... by "competently placed on the card" - did you mean "Completely" placed on the card? Can it be partially on the internal memory, and on the SD card.
For example, my iGO Primo app is installed on the internal memory. But all of the content/config/sys files are on the SD cards. All I had to do was edit the sys.text file so that the app knows to point to the SD card folder directory for all the maps/poi/voices... etc.

Can something similar be done with this TT Go version?

Also, as I mentioned in the TT NDS forum - I was going to re-install this p*tched version again. But this time I was going to install it directly, without first downloading the google play version.

1- I made sure to fully uninstall TT Go. I even searched for any remaining TT files/folders l manually deleted them. Then I rebooted my Android Head Unit.
2- I directly installed the p*tched TT Go. But I did not run it after it finished installing
3- I went into my head unit's Android/Settings/Apps/TT Go/Permission/Storage - and made sure to enable SD modifications, reading, deleting (that is how it shows in my unit
4- I made sure to NOT log into my google account so that google play store is not active and tries to update TT Go (I wanted to avoid the "New Update Available" message)
5- I connected to my wifi then ran TT Go
6- TT Go could not connect to the server (I tried several time and allowed for some time between tries - in case the servers were just busy)
7- I had to log into my google account (but I made sure not to run the google play store app)
8- I ran TT Go again and this time it immediately connected to the servers (I also allowed all permissions when prompted - except not sending my personal info)
9- I downloaded the USA maps, which was 5.3GB in size (it took almost 20 minutes to complete)
10- I then received a "45-day trail" alert that went away. This also happened when I installed it the first time using the google play store steps (Anyways... I believe this is just a false alert since this is a p*tched version. I guess I will find out in 45 days)
11- I checked my SD card, but I do not see any TT Go folders, no maps, no nothing (they all installed to the internal memory)
12- I rebooted my head unit just to make sure everything is good
13- I ran TT Go and runs normal, with the USA maps I downloaded. It behaves normally and performs as expected
14- But it still shows the "Newer Update Available" message at start up. I just need to click this message away

So my question is still the same. Is there a manual way to safely move the map related folders to the SD card? And, is there another way to stop this "Newer Update" message, or prevent it from happening at install? Do you happen to have this same exact version installed on you smartphone, or might it be another slightly different p*tched version?

By the way - I did not copy the obb file. I read in this thread that this file is not needed. If I copy this file, will it make the "Newer Update" message go away?

    Thanks for the help,
    ggee

This short discussion is moved here

Well, all history is present in this topic ...
What I did: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
About notifications, [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
I recommend you flip through the rest of the discussion ... but I get the impression you did it.

The OBB file must be in phone (internal memory, android\data\obb..., put it there after apk installation and before launching the application), otherwise it will be requested to be downloaded from the server. The software cannot function without it.

Before attempting a new installation you must completely clean the system of any traces of the previous ones ...
Unfortunately, this will require maps re-downloading...

As far as I can see, you've done everything you need to do except insert the obb file.
It is possible that there are consequences.

    I remembered something.
With such devices, often, the SD card is not an storage extension. It is treated as an external device. Even, with most, there is no possibility of writing in that slot (only the reader). This may not be the case with yours, but the behavior is mostly like that.
So, download only those maps that you really need (I don't know if there is a USA divided by regions).
I guess your device is modern, so memory is not that much of a problem.

    P.S.
Maybe you could do the procedure on your phone (if you have an android phone, of course). So if everything turns out as it should, and the appropriate folders and content are created in the internal memory and on the mSD card, then you copy it all (after installation) to the device and SD card.
However, I can't guarantee that the linking will be correct, android can be weird in that regard.

    Thanks Boki,

You have helped me a lot and I really appreciate it. I used TT Go today on a couple of short local drives (and a little highway drive too). I really like it. It's a simple clean layout, and the voice navigation is very precise with directions and street name. Nice.

Anyways.... the part you mentioned about copying the OBB file after installation but before launching is a new piece of info (from an order of steps perspective). The original instructions on the post (and the instructions in the zip) mention the OBB step at the end - after downloading the maps. Maybe the order of this step being at the end is what is causing the issue with "Newer Update Available" message - since the OBB is probably downloading from the server while downloading the maps.

Since it was mentioned on this threat that the OBB is not needed, I never copied the OBB file. I will look at which folder location it downloaded into and make a mental note (before uninstalling everything again). In this way, I can compare the downloaded location vs. the location given in the instruction. Then I will follow the same steps I did before. But this time, after installing but before launching, I will do the Android SD card permissions again and copy the OBB file to the correct location in the internal memory. I might have to create the Android\data\obb folder first before copying the OBB file inside. I don't believe my head unit had an OBB directory folder when I checked. My unit has Android\data\then the com.xxxx.xxxx files). Afterwards, I will reboot, then launch and begin downloading the maps again (for 20-25 minutes again).

Maybe this will stop the "Newer Update" message, and the 45-day trial message that pops-up and goes away (that has me a little worried).

    ***EDIT***

I checked my Android 9 Head Unit before uninstalling TT Go. I searched the internal memory and do not see any folder with the OBB file (specific to TT Go). I never copied it, since its was mentioned in this thread that it is not needed (but you say it is). I guess it never downloaded and installed from the server like you described above.

The instructions say to copy the OBB file to this folder: Android\obb\com.tomtom.gplay.navapp\ "copy OBB file here"
You say to copy it to this folder: Android\data\obb\ "copy OBB file here" - did you intend to also include the "\com.tomtom.gplay.navapp" portion in the path?
Either way, one is still different from the other - because one path is Android\obb while the other is Android\data\obb
Which one is the correct full path?

    ***END EDIT***

Thanks again, and I will keep you posted on how it goes.

    Hi

Yesss, sorry, error while typing early in the morning

Android\obb\ is general path where obb files have to be stored.
Of course, each of the files must be located in the subfolder of its app.
There may not be an obb folder in your device if you have never installed an application that uses them.
    So, the full path is
    Android\obb\com.tomtom.gplay.navapp\filename.obb
Yes, I'm sure I inserted the obb file after installing the apk and before running it.

Specifically if you're interested though it's not that important, in obb files for TT Go and the like, there are some basic languages, voices, and more.

You quickly master the story of obb files when you download android games for your kid

I got a new map version 1085, and I managed to replace the boring male voice with a pleasant female voice using a PC and a Total Commander (android 11 phone).
I tried the same with NDS, but it didn't work, the Total Commander did not see the folder with the voice

Of course not, nor does such a replacement work.
    Use TTS (Danica).

TomTom has discontinued support for this app.
It still works for me on Android 7, but you can no longer download maps.

I haven't been able to download a map for weeks

    Wrong
I still have it on my secondary phone (Huawei Android 10), and updates still work

They have to work, there are a bunch of their devices that use this mechanism

    I didn't say it didn't "run" anymore

If anyone is able to load other maps, please give feedback
