Converting GPX to routable IMG - Looking for software recommendations

I am trying to create a routable Garmin IMG for some trails in my area, and I am looking for an easy way to achieve this. I am hoping to get some recommendations.

Free or paid software is fine, as long as it works.

I would like to be able to change the route colors, but this is a luxury i can afford to live without.

I am not overly skilled at map making or anything, so the easier, the better. Also, this is for my own personal use. No one else.

I've tried GPX2IMG and it gets close, but there are two issues. First, it isn't routable, which is a deal breaker. Second, It leaves a watermark on the map, which I can live with, but I really would rather not have it.

There is GPSMapedit with cGPSmapper to do the job.
but, send me your img and GPX file and I'll make a transparent map routable free for you.

I don't actually have much for you to work with right now. This will be an ongoing project over the next month or so. I laughed a bit when I clicked your link... It's actually the snowmobile trails in my area that I am trying to map out. Our local club does an awesome job with maintaining the trails, but they have no online presence at all, and they never bother to submit their trail information to other sites like VAST or any mapmaking sites like GPS Trailmasters. So I decided I would try doing the mapping myself so I have something I can use while I am out riding.

I've downloaded GPSMapedit and I am poking around in it now. I can't figure out how to convert anything to an IMG, but I will keep at it and see if I can figure this out. Thanks for the information!

I've spent the past day or two playing with GPSMapedit, and I can get the trails to show up on the map just the way I want now. But one issue I am still having: I cannot figure out how to make it routable.

Could someone advise on how to remove the .img i created with gpx2img on a nuvi . It appears the file must be embedded into some other file as the directory isn't showing it. Thanks.

Download a program to your laptop called JaVaWa Device Mgr

Spoiler: download link for latest version

This program will show you every img file you have on your unit and the name the file has.

I just test the program GPX2IMG and it make a file called 13976001.img

Yours could have a different name.

You can see the file in Mapsource program from Garmin.

It put the file here first then your send it to your Nuvi unit. but I do not think it can use the file name as is.

SCDI: Hi I am also interested in making a map with GPX tracks. Ive been using GPX2IMG and MapSource and it STILL works but only with older Garmin Nuvis, I want to use a larger 6in unit and the layer does not display on it. Ive also done the process to unlock the firmware to allow non garmin created maps and it still doesn't display. So Im wondering if a map made with a different tool would work.

Before I go down that road I was wondering if there are any basic how tos on creating maps with these tools.

Hi i don't know what kind of nuvi you have.

If it works in your Nuvi I use GPSMapEdit and cGpsmapper Pro to make them
