How far reaches TMC traffic info ?
Hi.
When I look at the map I noticed that the TMC Traffic icons like road blocks, works etc reaches about 200 km from my hometown near Amsterdam, so I don't see any icons in Germany ( just a few near the Dutch / German border ) and the same in Belgium. No info visible in Luxembourg, France and the rest of Germany. And yes, all these maps are installed.
Also when I tab the traffic info button the list always ends at 215 km from my current location.
Could not check it at the border yet.
Does this mean no traffic info in other countries or is there a distance limit ?
Is this normal ?

Ok,clear.
So,when I plan a trip to let's say Frankfurt it does not calculate TMC events outside the 220 km limit ?

Yes, that's what I think.
But of course, these events will update as your itinerary progresses, while keeping this radius of about 220 km around your position !
Well it's my opinion. But I could be wrong .............

First I think we're talking about "online traffic" not "TMC"(Traffic Message Channel), the TMC is FM radio.
So, I've tested, the radius is exactly 222 km, cross-border navigation (if the corresponding maps are present) As long as there is network connection, the data is updated

I have set up a Route from Frankfurt/Main (DE) to Amsterdam (NL) and get Trafic-Data listed up to the Border of NL. It's logical, as long as I move in a Lan I can only get Data from a Country. The Country code will be the deciding Factor here?

I do not think the country code has any importance but definitely the licenses !
I am not far from the German border. Without moving, I have the events that occur in France in Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium.
But still within a radius of about 220 km !

But why I have in my sys.txt :
[tmc-http]
enabled=1
profile_name=nng-igo-tmc-iphone
udp.enabled=0
[tmc.src.http]
enabled="1"
When I disable the profile_name by putting ; before the line there is no traffic info anymore.
So my question is, what has this TMC to do with fm radio because there is no fm radio on my tablet or phone.Last edited by Boki; 3rd August 2019 at 08:04 AM.

Because you pull data over the network, and these are the parameters for the servers. Disable mobile data on devices (no changes in sys) and again you will have no any information.
Classic TMC is radio FM signal. Discussed so many times. Browse Forum.

TMC is originally designed to be broadcasted via FM radio, this goes back to the late '80s when there was no internet in the average household and no smartphones existed.
The TMC feed is practically a dynamic text file (xml) aggregated in a traffic centre from thousands of signals (loops embedded into the roads, cameras, accident reports etc) and the TMC events are continuously being coded to the FM broadcast
To make life easier this XML file with the current traffic events is available online too so your smart device (tablet/phone etc) with no FM antenna can also have access to the same information what's being broadcasted via FM stations. On the other hand it obviously requires GSM reception and internet access.
Not strictly connected to the topic but but was brought up by someone here earlier that in most countries there are more than one TMC networks and one network usually broadcasts on several radio stations to provide decent coverage. The traffic horizon is usually 150-200km but this is usually the limit of the gps device to take into account when planning route. The other thing is the sort of traffic information being broadcasted by the given TMC network, it can be international, national, regional, local (int/nat/reg/loc) with most TMC networks not broadcasting cross border/international traffic data.
