As a newbie to iGO nextgen I finally got VR working on my device after many days of reading and testing. Thanks to all the posts on this thread, many others on igo-primo-nextgen-software, and especially the seria's post:

The most important step is to realize that only Israel and Gift Nextgen variants have VR capabilities. This is not obvious for a newbie since all variants look similar and feel the same.
I also discovered that iGO can use its internal TTS engine instead of Android's system. When Android system TTS is used, GPS sound cannot be mixed with system sound such as radio or music. There is a work-around for sound mixing but it requires re-assigning GPS app in settings. If iGO internal TTS engine (tts_nua_ve1) is used, sound mixing works well without any issues.
