TomTom maps are the best. It is true HERE has greater coverage but it is also true that in the last 3 years the water strange business policy. That is why Nokia announced the sale HERE maps. Who will be the owner and will be developed further question unanswered. What if you buy Facebook? They will not need a house number to maps ...

I'm right, Garmin confirms, that until recently had your maps already bought them from HERE/Navteq and local providers.

Garmin has bought AdriaRoute who make maps for EX-YU countries. Therefore will not buy HERE maps for the region with over 20 million inhabitants.

I habe been on holidays more than once on Spain islands and TT maps have not let me down and knew all the roads I have seen, even unpaved ones.
Of course I am speaking about the (touristic) islands, not the mainland, where HERE can be more accurate. Once I will go there and test myself

Possibly a bit off topic, nevertheless also on topic.
I spent a week in Spain recently on vacation. On a city walk, I sort of got lost and did not know which street to take to get to my destination, a panoramic view. As on more vacation places I visited, street signs were nowhere to be found.

My smartphone is equipped with Primo Android and TT2015.03, also with (Nokia) HERE software plus maps.
To find my further route, I activated the GPS, first HERE. With the result that I was in that place on a unknown street that was a dead end. And obviously it was not.
On Primo, the street had a name (Calle something) and was not a dead end at all. Switching between the two apps showed me that the HERE app showed few streets nearby while Primo (TomTom) showed plenty. The view I was looking for just was about 200meters further, around the corner, a corner that only Primo and TomTom showed me.

Maybe a not that important experience in this whole thread, a local flaw perhaps, but again I can do no different than prefer TomTom above HERE.

Please note I do not break down HERE maps. I am convinced that I always will find my destination whatever HERE or TT. So far, I just haven't found any opportunity to say that HERE is better than TomTom.

I haven't tested the latest versions of TT or Here maps, but in Portugal, TT always seem more complete, with more streets. Also, there are more street names than in Here maps...

After some testing, the Here maps seem a bit outdated for Portugal... Some roundabouts appear as crossroads, even after some years of existence, speed limits are wrong more often... Tomtom maps seem more accurate in both these aspects, but has some flaws also, as some streets are not complete....

Just ran a test and IMO the TomTom maps are better for USA. They are much more detailed and routing seems to be better too. The HERE maps routed me in very strange and not so direct routes when choosing fastest route. Again, just my opinion.
