I know it is easier to use them, but i'm pretty sure that the Garmin server can browse your Device.... so, i prefer to use the sd fw update method for gupdate.gcd, or there are other 'manual' ways including using updater.exe to load the fw as an rgn file, etc. none of which involve the garmin server.
