I tried this but I don't think you can get the CID. It gives the partition ID not the card ID, which you can get by issuing a DIR command on that drive. In my case, the "real hard drive ID" is the same regardless what drive I select.

and as stated by you "...."the real hard drive ID" is the same regardless what drive I select." I long ago gave up on that so-called hardware ID extractor.

I freely admit to a very shallow understanding of running command prompts, and was under the impression that a dir command on a drive only yields the "Volume Serial Number". Could you explain more fully how to get the CID using >dir?

Sorry, I did not mean to imply that that you can get the CID using the DIR command. You only get the "Volume Serial Number" (I called it the partition ID) when you issue the DIR command. You can also get the Volume Serial Number using the free utility "Speccy" which you can download for free from filehippo.com.

On my Nuvi 5000 I have to go to the trip screen (odometer, speedometer, etc) and hold down the speedometer for a few seconds. Maybe that works for other models as well.

Thanks AGAIN Catymag! I will try that utility. These steps do not working on the marine unit, so hopefully this utility will do the job!

could not post the link to the new version I only have 7 posts... So give me a few, but that version is old and it directs you to a newer version. But when I run it the real hard drive ID just says hardware. No number. But the partition ID is 6566-66638.

UPDATE: no luck still just says hardware. No number, but my partition ID did change. Would this be the number to create an unl file to lock this map down?

How do you add pics to your post. I would like to be able to post some images??
