Nuvi 255W missing Garmin logo screen but still boots
I have a Nuvi 255W that doesn't show the "Garmin" logo on the screen while it boots or while connected to a laptop, and another 255W and a 265 that both show the "Garmin" logo normally. When I got the first 255W (used) it was showing a color photo instead of the "Garmin" logo, I later found that color photo in the "Picture Viewer" and selected a different one. Now it doesn't show either, just a dark background where it should say "Garmin".
I manually flashed nuvi2x5W_GCDFile-MTK__780.gcd (it was running 6.60) to the 255W but it didn't help. Also tried a factory reset.
The screen stays black after booting when connected to a laptop and mounted as a drive. I want to restore the normal "Garmin" logo display. Anyone know how I can do that?

It's missing the image information in region 16 (0x10) which is why it doesn't show the Logo on the start screen. This is easily fixed by flashing the original LOGO BIN file via SD card but make sure you use the correct ramloader (bootbin/Ldr.bin) or you'll maybe brick it badly. You mentioned the MTK version of the firmware, which is only for HWID 1091 devices. There are also numerous US/EU 2x5W devices with HWID 0827 so double-check its HWID first: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. I discovered it's an MTK chipset when it ignored the non-MTK GCD file I fed it. The HWID is 1091 and Part Number is "006-B1091-00" in the GarminDevice.xml file. It does seem to be EU flavored because there was an SD card in it when I got it that contained an EU map database.
Thanks for the replies. I don't know this Nuvi's history or how it came to be showing the photo in place of the logo, or why selecting a different photo in the "Picture Viewer" replaced the orginal photo with a blank screen and no logo. Flashing it to restore the logo seems more risky than it's worth.
