No, the GarminDevice.xml file will not disclose the PCB P/N. On the hardware itself, you can check it in the device's Version Information page in the hidden inventory behind Battery Symbol. Hold for ~6 seconds then when "SW Ver" screen shows keep pressing 'Next'/(just press lower RH corner if 'next' doesn't show on subsequent pages) until you see the screen headed "Version Information" with PCB P/N at the top. Some devices can press 'Back' rather than 'Next' to get to it quicker. To find in firmware, look for "1*0*5*-" in a hex reader program, read the link i directed you to previously in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].
In most, yes it will work like shown in that video linked in Post #60 for nuvi 255W. Some older car devices and some non-automotive devices it won't work at all. Some like nuvi 300/600 series you hold the clock instead of the battery.
You can't without doing some serious firmware modification. Maybe someone knows but i don't and also doubt it's worth the effort anyway even if it's even possible. That start-screen bug is pointed out in the initial post. It doesn't affect the actual usability of the converted device whether as hybrid or complete conversion.
