That interesting information!! Apparently you have great familiarity with hardware Garmin. Do you mean that all nuvi, 40/50, 24x5, 25x5 has exactly the same processor/chipset and soon, everyone will be able to use the benefits of future Galileo network? Note that there is a slight variation in the termination of processors models, N2 up to Y2 (533 to 754mhz) so they can be of the same family, with the same general model designation, but with differences in processing speed. I believe that knowing the hardware of gps can open doors to unveil many "mysteries" of the firmware and its compatibilities, so I emphasize their importance.
I would like very much to know what is the processor of 3790, which becomes very hot. Is the same of the entire line of the 3xxx series 2012, apparently the coldest? Another curiosity I have is knowing how to open the case of the 3xxx without "destroy it.". Who knows one of these days you can teach us...
(sorry by the subject "slightly" off topic.....)

Garmin, how much is 30 pieces of silver for Judas today? Were they worthy for crucifix of GPSPower?
Sorry I missed some action guys. First sleeping in the arms of Bacchus, then earlier today was doing major upgrades and loading Win8 to my main PC. Thanks for the PM to alert me loly. Have abandoned the PC to work on this exciting project. It's just after midday here now so I suppose most of y'all have your heads under your wings in the NH. This is what I have done:
This looked good so far:
Then this, tried 3 times & got same result so that is not gonna work:
Have I done something wrong? Here is the rgn i used: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Unit flashed back to 40 v2.70 fw OK.
Tried with combined fw GUPDATE.gcd but really didn't expect that to work and it didn't of course. Unit stalled on initial screen for a while:
Then it booted and ran normally. No change and no GUPDATE.gcd in .system folder.
@loly
The fw_all.bin of 140/150 is huge compared to 40/50's. Is that right? BTW, actually i do have a 50 but it's near-new and LM, so playing with the 40 as the 'sacrificial lamb'. Don't want to risk the 50LM.....

Credit card is my favourite tool too! [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Lately sometimes been using an expired iTunes gift card as i've found it to be a bit firmer than a cc which makes it better for some units.
Angelo, that linked post of mine also describes how i open 3xxx without risk of damage, gentler and safer that a case pry tool i think.
Captain.snail, welcome aboard Sir! You nick belies your machine-gun speed of posting, another worthy addition to the Noeman gurus. Not me, i'm just a 'blunt intrument' man, i'm not 'fancy stuff capable' but happy to test.

Nuvi 40/50 and Nuvi 150 have different hardware version. I think, fw_all.bin of 140/150 doesn't work on nuvi 40/50.
And it is interesting to me, how we can convert 140/150 to 2xx5 series or to add missing functions (look at screenshot of about pages).

Google Nexus 5 5.0.1 (SP 2.35) / Nuvi 310 -> 710 -> 205W -> 1310T (Deluxe FW) -> 2495LT GLONASS / Nuvi 765T -> Nuvi 3490LT / Nuvi 765T -> Nuvi 765T
The loading addresses of firmwares for nuvi 140/150 and nuvi 40/50 are different (0x00080000 vs 0x10032000), so you can't easily "convert" one to the other.
But they are equal for nuvi 24x5/25x5 and nuvi 140/150, so it may be worth trying.

@lolypop000
Yes, it work with GTM35 cable.
@kunix
I spoke about convert 140/150 in 2xx5, not 40/50 in 140/150.
Possibly it's not easy. But i hope it's real.
