    You would have to go through the firmware program, line by line, and remove the line that says to read (XXX) at data block (XXX) on the CF card. This is way beyond my skill level. I have the time to do this but not the knowledge to do so. Young programing talent is needed here.!The firmware file is 3,542KB but finding that one line (XXX) and remove it, if that is what Garmin is doing? Greg

    Well... you really have 3 options:
    don't update the fw & put up with outdated non-NT maps with full functions,
    update and buy new NT maps with full functions,
    or update and use 'unlocked' NT maps with limited search functions.
    Nice to have a choice

    Well I would rather put up with the non-searchable POIs. I think the updated map is more important to me. Maps older than 2 years need updated. You can still see the closest PIOs on the screen. The old non-NT maps are unreliable for roads and PIOs anyway.
