I've used MapInstall & MapSource 6.16.3 and still same problem. I guess Garmin got us on this one.

I have a 06 Wing and updated the firmware to 4.60 installed the 2012.40 img file and like everybody else I got the grayed out keyboard. So I copied my old map file to it and was going to switch between cards to use the search option that way. I then copied the file gmapprom.img to a another card so that I would have the updated maps. Well all the smaller roads did not appear I tried another download and got the same thing. For some reason I pulled the card with the unit still on and renamed the file to gmapsupp.img and reinstalled it into the unit while it was still on. It showed the little window Loading Maps and guess what everything works with the new maps no grayed out keyboard. Have not a clue to what happened but maybe someone else can duplicate it and figure it out. Hope this is helpful to someone

Some of the best discoveries are made accidentally, lol. It would seem that 'hot plugging' the map card maybe enables something to allow the new map to be fully compatible with the fw update and thus fully enable search(?). If you could verify that this 'enabling' is permanent for the new map, i.e. that hot plugging does not have to be repeated after the unit is powered down and rebooted, that would appear to confirm some kind of fw initializing. Either way, if this is not a one-off fluke and works with any NT map, it's a nice find champ.

Checked it today and it's still working like a charm showing map ver 2012.40

Went for a ride, a little nippy today but got home and tried ever thing again and lost my POI search keyboard was grayed out but ever thing else still works without rebooting. Trying to figure out why I lost it.
