If anything happened when you tried to flash the 2 bin files & erase rgn 48 via SD, there would be a file named update.log in the 0851 folder. [SD:/Garmin/Updater/0851/update.log].

Contained in the 0851 file is a ldr file and an update text file. But nothing named update.log. The contents of update.text are:

    ergn,48
    xrgn,12,1:/Garmin/12.bin
    xrgn,14,1:/Garmin/14.bin
    reboot

I'm new to all this so this may be relevant or not but when the device is connected to the pc with the SD card inside, both the device and the SD card perform like attached drives. It is as if the Garmin isn't even interacting with the files contained in the SD card.

Your Pc see nuvi or not?
If you can see Garmin then format again with prepusb and after format create empty folder with name Garmin.

    for pre boot try this:

    Open updater.exe window

Add finger in uper left corner of screen and hold it, with other finger hold power button to the left and with other hand connect nuvi to Pc and updater must see your nuvi.

Correction: I believe that the SDCard Method using update.txt and LDR.bin will not work when GarminCure3 is loaded in Cure Mode.
Cure Firmware traps early to Mass Storage mode.
Maybe Kunix can confirm this ?

If that were true, GarminCure3 would literally kill devices with 100% reliability, as there would be no other ways to update the firmware.
But no, pre-boot mode has to work, because bootloader inside boot.bin is not patched.
You can flash some garbage instead of fw_all.bin and pre-boot mode would still work on 99% of Garmin devices (on GVN53 it won't, sadly). This proves that pre-boot is not implemented in fw_all.bin. And GarminCure3 patches only fw_al.bin.
The answer seems to be too obvious... Maybe I didn't understand you.

I wrote updater.exe instead of update.txt (blonde moment).

If no updater.log in SD then flash over SD don't work and you maybe have MTK chipset.

Try with this pack over SD:

Tried the files for the MTK chipset and got the same result. The device merely acts as a double storage device.

I've even tried using different SD cards with the same result. Is the format of the SD card relevant?

Cards formatted as either FAT16 or FAT32 can be read by the unit. I think dasilvarsa is right, the loader is not initiated because of the cure fw present.
