In that case you are either totally missing the point of, or have misunderstood what catymag has told you about using MapInstall to select parts of the map from the PC Installed version [gmap folder]. That way you can select only one or a few countries, or indeed just part of one country or even only one single map tile to send to your device. In the example below Kristiansand, Norway:

And in that case the resulting map image file will only be ~17MiB in size. You could select dozens of tiles selected from all over the map if you wanted. There is absolutely no need to load the entire map image, or try to split an existing image using GMAPTool.

Sorry no way, as written in a previous post, img contains MDR data (address index) but: (from Gmaptool Help)

Unfortunately GMapTool is unable to convert a MDR file from mapset into a format acceptable by Mapsource
