Assuming you're using an American TTS voice, you also need one of the US dialect srd files depending on whether your unit uses the ASR1 files from 3790/2460 or the ASR2 files from 24/25/34/35xx. The former is English_American.srd and the letter is en_US.srd and the srd file is also located in the ASR folder. If you have the wrong type of srd that's also a problem.

Well it appears not all the voice recognition functions work on the Kenwood. I found the English_American.srd file and en_US.srd. I tried them both and it did not help.

I found a list of files on a slightly older Kenwood DNX9980 (2011 model). Here is what is in the ASR directory:

I am think the DNN990 is similar, but with updated files for 2014.10. Don't know where to get them though.

I plopped these file into the ASR directory of the 990HD and no joy. However, they seemed to help the voice recognition for the older 9980HD even with the new maps.
