Guys, As Catymag is aware i have spend days working on how to actually make cityxplorer work, I have suceeded , It is simple to make the maps work, but seems i still need to learn a bit more about how my 3790 works, i think its the design of sofware and what i expected is not quite what the programmers have done. So set that aside, it will work but you have to get used to the unit and you MUST spend time and know your unit.
As for the maps, it is SO simple onces you have achieved how its all done, I have had much problems as it is NOT explained in "simple" terms, if someone actually posted step by step (see my post in this thread)
This all you need to remember, 3790 does not need the names changed on maps EG: gmapsupp etc,
1. Make a folder on you sd card called ...garmin make another called maps.
2. generate a unl file with notepad and call it gmapsupp.unl....place this file in garmin folder
3. Cityxplorer maps....DO NOT USE UNLOCKERS. the maps are unlocked, all you do is extract the Melbourne, sydney etc maps to the folder called ...maps. NO need to change map names..just extract and drag into map folder.
Remember you can place you sd card in your reader and drap drop.
IT WORKS!
Place your card into garmin unit, reboot your unit, go to maps and you will see all the cityxplorer maps.
Paris and NY are different and seems nothing needs to be done, thats why it confuses us.
If you go to main screen on your unit, your aware the icon on top shows a picture of a car (normally) if you tap it a drop down screen comes on and YOU will see option for Car , Pedestrian and bicycle. It MUST show "powered by cityxplorer" under Pedestrian.
So, if you have all that, you have cityxplorer.
To test the cityxplorer, you need to pretend your in that city, so you must turn off the gps. Tools,settings,system..gps simulator must be turned off. You can try "where to" and dont forget when it asks your current loction place any point somewhere middle melbourne. What i have found is if you use the "trip planner" it sucks! When i choose from point A to end point B and press next it goes into keyboard screen??? but if you just type the end address it opens up proprerly for city navigation with bus stops etc. Its not what i thought i should do. If anyone knows whats with this please let me know.
Also it is bullshit that train stations are not easily found, try and find Flinders streed station or any in poi under transit there is nothing.. if you do a search somehow it is found with other options of same name, this is crap.
Maybe do simple test with cityxplorer starting from Melbourne international airport to end at crown casino using pedestrian mode and let us know.
