Anything else I should watch out for, when it comes to this device? It's been a long time since it's been tinkered with. Does it support unicode or non unicode maps? Any place I can download firmwares, latest audio files? Does it need those base image files for maps updated?

Quite surprised it works with latest maps, to be honest. This little device proves to be indestructible and, to an extent, immortal. It is slow, but still probably much faster than my gramps.
