OK.
I decided to start again to make sure there were no errors.
I re-downloaded City Navigator Europe NTU (Unicode) 2012.20 + gmap3d + JCV from catymag....

I deleted all the old maps from the 3790T/system/folder

I installed the 2012.20 map + GMAP3D + JCV to the SD card.

The gmap3d still does not show the buildings.
To check it was not the card I put the files from the SD card into the Garmin/system folder. Still no joy.
