Is an OSM map same as a contributor's map?
This is exactly the reason why I don't trust the local dealers here. They don't know anything about the products they are selling. You see how they include a FREE map with the expensive garmin devices they are selling? It just isn't fair.
What advantages does a legit map present over an OSM map?
OSM maps are open source maps, routable but cant use search in gps in many cases.
Roadguide maps are contributors maps fromCode:Please Login or Register to see the links
you can have them if you contribute to maps compiling and if you help with tracks ,waypoints etc [sometimes users share themCode:Please Login or Register to see the links]

Yeah, roadguide.ph forums is the forums that I mentioned earlier where I saw a lot of 3790 users collaborating. What do you call the maps installed by using City Navigator? What is their difference with OSM and contributor's maps? When you say routable, what does it exactly mean? Sorry, I'm new to all these terms![]()
Routable means, you route from point A to point B, it shows you the direction and where you have to turn.
OSM maps won't do this in most cases
Ok. And the maps installed using the City Navigator have all these features (routable, GPS search, etc.)?
One more thing, is the 3790T the best garmin nuvi that one can buy?

yes City navigators have all these features-
3790T, has the best display a Garmin can have and it's a very nice gadget, but its firmware (US) has still some bugs not yet solved, like the famous JCV bug-

You cant transfer routes from Mapsource, you can just use a trip planner on your unit and it's not yet working properly ,you cant see pois on map with US sw eg.
Usually Garmin needs some sw updates to solve bugs.

Ok. I just bought a 3790 at ebay for $240 brand newI hope everything goes well when I receive it.
Is this forum the best source for all the knowledge I get and I can get for my upcoming device?
I was told in Roadguide forums that they can use the POI feature with the 3790T US firmware. I thought that feature isn't working with the US firmware?
Also, they stated that the contributors map is usually more up to date than the Garmin Philippines map, is that true? If so, is there an advantage of using the Garmin Philippines map?
No POIS on map in US version, you must convert to Sing/May to see them-
If contributors are able to see them in an US sw unit ,I'd like to see some screenand may be they can explain how coz nobody on forums knows how to.
We never had the pleasure to have posted Garmin Philippine CN ,so we cant compare with Roadguide map.
About our forum, I cant judge ,do it by yourself comparing it with other ones- There are very good forums around, better to check them too
good luck

Here's the thread I am in right now talking about POIs in a 3790T with US firm:
gtv there mentioned that the device will not show POIs "only" while navigating.Code:Please Login or Register to see the links
