About new models of Nuvis, and Outdoors models too, the only limitation is the \.System folder, where it's recognized only gmapprom.img (and supplementary Maps such as 3DBuilding).
In \Garmin and \Map folder Maps with any name, as long as the extension is.IMG, are recognized.
The Astro 320 falls into this category

You can create a new .unl file for the map using the card id with jetmouse, but it'll be useless without a new .gma of course, because the original .gma is specific for the original device/card only, so it won't work with the new .unl.

Edit: Just to be clear, the map will work in any sd inserted in the unit provided it's accompanied by it's legitimate and appropriately named .unl & .gma files. Accompanied that is, either on the sd with the map, or remaining on the unit. By legitimate, i mean those files that were created or existing when the map/unit was purchased.

i am also running out of space on the internal drive of my 3790t. just as i learned that i can move my factory mapset files from the internal to the sd card which includes, img, unl, gma files. my question is how is it when i have to update it thru the garmin express updater, will it still be ok? will the updater find its way to the original factory mapset being in the sd card. thanks and have a nice day.

I'm not particularly a great fan of Garmin Express at the moment. Have a look at this thread: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

As to your question whether GE will find it's way to the oem map and associated unl and gma after moved off the unit to a microSD, try it an see, but i'm tipping only will do that if the files were originally installed there by a Garmin method. Have a read of this too: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    I use a program called mapselect.exe:
Allows you to select and rename multiple maps. Disadvantage is that you need a Windows PC to run the program. Id doesnt run on the Garmin device. TomTom has a much cleaner solution: you just select one of many maps stored.

What is simpler than put your anyname.img in a folder named Map in sd? Every nuvi produced since 2011 accept this
    In outdoors:SD/Garmin/anyname.img.

Why do you need rename multiple maps on device? In any case you upload map with PC help. This program only for those who do not rename maps itself with keyboard - it's just a manager. In Garmin device you only check or uncheck a special box against map name then - what may be cleaner and easier???

    What Garmin model you have?
Garmin, how much is 30 pieces of silver for Judas today? Were they worthy for crucifix of GPSPower?
