Hi everyone,
I am quite confused. I downloaded the Mexico unlocked IMG from page one, renamed it to gmapsupp.img, installed it on my Nuvi 1690 (tried both Nuvi or SD card) but it keeps saying "cannot unlock the map"
The folder used in the Nuvi is "xx\Garmin\Map"
The folder on the SD card is xx\Garmin
I changed the name (gmapprom.img, gmapprom1.img in the Nuvi but no result.
Am I missing something ?

Problem solved, gmapsupp.unl was added and the map is now unlocked

Mexico map is unlocked but probably some new nuvis dont accept unlocked maps
checked --no gmapsupp.unl in my phone

the map is unlocked

First thank you SuzieQ for the great site. Newbee here but long time diddler of technology. I do it just to learn.
I have a nuvi 855.
My question is, there were comments made a couple of pages back about voice control being killed after a certain version of 2010, Is this the case with 2011 also. Has there been a workaround. Was all set to upload but finished the thread without any further comment.

One separate question, are gmapsupp.img and smapprom.img interchangeable? I see you can load different maps separately [instead of combining files] by adding a 1. I have the second on my 855 and most of the files are the first. Thanks again.

Now to the real problem, I have gotten my nuvi 855 to acknowledge 2011.1 maps, but they have no detail. They have more detail than the base map which seems to disappear closer than a 20 mile radius, so now I can get to my street, with NO detail. Tried both the gmapprom1.img + Mex DEM and the unlocked USA. One a prom one a supp. So it seams like both work, slightly different, but without detail.

Can a supp be renamed to a prom? Are they the same file, just looked at slightly differently as per the great link supplied. Can you have a supp without a prom or base?

And to include a totally different topic in one post, I cannot, even with Kaspersky turned off, connect to any multiupload sources. The hot file links seem to be dead/removed.

about renaming IMGs read the tutorial I linked above, instructions are there
Basemap is always required
nobody reported problems with multiupload links
sorry for hotfiles mirrors use megaup links, even becoz nobody created new mirrors for Ms install
