The only reason to do a full conversion [other than the convenience of updating firmware as detailed in the last para of my previous reply] is in case the original fw boot.bin was not capable of initiating and loading the dezl fw. This can be seen in the case of conversion of [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] where the smaller 3790 boot cannot handle the 3490's bigger [than 3790's] fw_all component and so the conversion is done using the complete 3490 fw. So that the inadequate boot bin can work, there is a method of compressing the donor firmware developed by our resident genius kunix using his [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] but if you want to understand the background reasons for packing in that case read the posts before and after that link. Although it's simply academic for conversion of nuvi 2797/8>dezl760 or RW760 because the nuvi's native boot bin works with the 760's fw_all bin uncompressed anyway, not all fw can be successfully compressing using the gfwpack.exe tool.
In short, because the 'safest' option method of hybrid fw works without any compression of the donor fw to convert 2797/8 to 760 there is no reason at all to think that the full conversion would not work successfully exactly as it does for nuvi 2460 to dezl 560. If the unit was mine i would now happily do a full conversion. My 2460 has been converted back and forth to 560 many times using both methods [always with nonvol cleared] and is still kicking. But as always the risk if any is yours totally.
If you should ever get access to a BC20 i'd be very interested to hear if it works with original 2797 and/or 760 convert.
