I had the same problem, being a continental truck driver i travel over some really rough roads.
After time the sun gets to the sucker and there are 2 plastic tabs inside the locking mechanism that are not very sturdy and snap off.
My solution???
I now use a generic mount from ebay with the data cable plugged into the bottom of the Tomtom going to a decent USB charging adapter.
Works a treat
