When it says "up to date" (see image), then your maps are up to date. When this is absent, that means there are new maps available (yes, confusing!). There is no message like in the other Tomtom app that there are new maps available for download. That is a difference between the 2 apps.

There is no DFoX NDS... DFoX is for TomTom GO, this is NDS.
Read thread from beginning.
All versions of NDS are retail, for now. I haven't compared, but DFox has nothing to do with the apk file

I can confirm that dfox has a "TomTom NDS Retail" version on his forum.

Previous versions of Tom'Tom NDS automatically prompted download increments when the map was updated. However, there is no such prompt in version 1.3.4. Is it a bug? Thank you！

It was already gone in version 1.3.3.

Not intentionally as far as I know. I think it is a bug and eventually it will be fixed. But still, it's a bit annoying

]There have been a number of these small updates recentely. Seems to me as many as one every five days. Not sure if such small updates are helpfull if the automatic update-function isn't working.
I'll stop updating until it's automatic again (next version?) or will do so in a few months time

I went back and tested v1.0.6.
Installed it a couple of days ago.
Turned it on today and as you can see from the screenshots that you do get message that updates are there.

So it seems that the last version to give you info on updates is v1.0.6
