Galaxy S5 Kitkat 4.4.2 / Nuvi1200->1250 / Nuvi3790T->34xx / Nuvi 2200 / Nuvi 66 / Oregon 600
Will the voice files (text to speech) of a Garmin Nuvi 1300 work on my Windows Mobiles phones that have Garmin Mobile XT > Is getting TTS *.vpm files the only requirement for having audible street names in Garmin Mobile XT or it just won't work?
Thanks in advance!
@catymag,
new vpm file (PCM 22khz, 8 Bit mono 176kbps) stays mute
went back to the guide and I am stuck due to this contradiction:
"...it is recommended that you choose this format: WAV (Microsoft 4 bit IMA ADPCM,...) ... I couldn’t get my file to work with that ADPCM setting"
so, is ADPCM recommendable at all or not and are your PCM settings
(352kbps, 22050hz, mono, 16bit) suitable for a nuvi 200 and c510?
regards
Damian
anyway - on a NUVI 200 those settings DO NOT work at all
Microsoft 4 bit IMA ADPCM, quality: 89 kbps, 22050 Hz, mono, 16 bit
(file size 848kb)
error description:
after calculating the device (connected through usb) hanged itself
several times up, no reaction to any display pushes.
it was not possible to switch it off permanently instead it rebooted
to either stall on loading maps or after calculating again.
after disconnecting it from power supply the switching off worked
properly. changing the language back to a genuine one brought it
back to working condition.

Damian

Galaxy S5 Kitkat 4.4.2 / Nuvi1200->1250 / Nuvi3790T->34xx / Nuvi 2200 / Nuvi 66 / Oregon 600
solution found:
seems to be an error in the guide -
there is either a Microsoft ADPCM
or an IMA ADPCM, not both in one.
analyzing one of the wav-files voice_editor
extracts using Windows Properties names the latter.
used Cool Edit Pro, resampled the Microsoft ADPCM
files into IMA ADPCM (89 kbps, 22050 Hz, mono, 16 bit)
and got the Nuvi working.

ps
it really annoying - codecs, Java, C and so forth,
Micrcos's own custom (i.e. licence) variations are
often polluted to uselessness...
Sorry guys, I've been MIA for a long time. I found this thread again while looking for answers for the newer garmin devices (1200, 1300, etc.). Apparently they won't take the old .vpm format... they only take tts vpms. Unfortunately I don't know how to fix that, but I'm sure someone will look into it.
As for audio formats, yup, it's a real pain in the butt... I had to test the files over and over, and trying different formats. Sometimes they worked, sometimes not.
Damian, maybe you can get Arnie to record his voice for us with all the gps commands, huh? It took a lot of time (A LOT!) to get that done and working... I was just having fun, and I did it for free. I still think it's pretty funny. But it's obvious that the tone would never be the same for all files, since the recordings were taken from his dialogues in movies and speeches.
Hi hope someone will have an answer to this. I have opened the English_American.vpm voice that was loaded originally on my nuvi 205 with voice editor and it extracted the sample_000.bin file and from sample_001.wav to sample_116.wav edited it and it worked fine on my GPS.
I have updated my voice files on the GPS the other day and wanted to use the new English_American.vpm in voice_editor_v0.8 when I opened the new English_American.vpm it did not load into the buttons in voice editor. It did however extracted the files but this time the wav files was from sample_001.wav to sample_131.wav plus another file sample_langdesc.ini. If i try to open the bin file in voice editor it also does not load into the buttons.
I have compared the wav files from the old and new files and the are not the same eg
old sample_052.wav is incompatible audio version and the new sample_052.wav is immediately.
Any idea why the new vbp and bin files does not load into the buutons?
and this file extracted sample_000.bin but all af a sud
