Just FYI.
Once I had one device with only defective battery, that 'refused' to boot, even connected on external power supply.
After changing battery everything worked.
It's because battery has 3rd (control) line, which is used for comunication with device about it's state.
If that signal is not correct, then device refuses to boot, or work after 'basic' boot, as soon as OS checks state of battery.

Not sure if this is case, but maybe, it might help.
