    EPE v5.23
    Latest BETA Version (2011-07-30)

I just released EPE v5.23 which fixes the Batch Reverse Geocoding issue where nothing was getting added in the City, State and PostCode fields.

I opened a default account for EPE on Geonames.org to use the free service. If not all EPE users are using Reverse Geocoding at the same time, it should be fine. There are hourly and daily quotas to respect.

EPE users can also register their own username at Geonames.org and put the username in the Preferences to have their own personal quota.

Getting your own username is somewhat optional. How to get a username is described on top of this page:

google has shut down labs.google.com and some of the markers used in EPE were coming from there. Please download EPE v5.30 to fix the problem. Same d/l as usual. Refer to post #1.

Changes from v5.29 to beta v5.30

    - Uses markers from a different site. Fixes the missing markers on View All POIs on Map and the markers for the circles in the POI edit window.

    @ Turbo

    Two questions:
    1. How to make a gpi file with more than one gpx file with EPE? For example I want to make a speed cameras gpi file where inside there are lets say 5 gpx files each having poi cameras for 50km/h, 60km/h, 70km/h etc. How to make categories in a gpi?

    2. Can you add angle alert for POI like GPI creator can?

    Cheers,

    1. Do a "Merge Open" of all your .GPX file. Then "Export by Filename" and select a .gpi output. It will create a .gpi with the filename as categories.

    2. Only Circles are fully implemented and working. You can set the angle in EPE. It will also save them in some special GPX statements so you can reload them later. EPE does not write the angles to the .gpi. Here's why: GPI Creator allows you to set and write the angles to the .gpi but no GPS is supporting the angles (as I am told). If you tell me that angles are working, I'll be please to add them in the .gpi.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough. I want to create a gpi file with subcategories. For example I want to create a speed cameras gpi file that has three main categories - speed cameras on red lights, stationary speed cameras and places where police stay often. Inside of this three categories there are sub categories depending on the speed limit. Here an image:

Here you can download the gpi file:

    and see it.

How can I make such thing with EPE?

    2. I didn't know that angles are not working. I will check and write.

Now, you are clear. You want 2-level categories. Although I know (or at least I knew) how to do it, I do not think it is currently implemented in EPE. I have not worked on this for some time now. I looked at the code and I do not see the second level category. I just remember testing it in the early days. So I assume it is not there yet.

My recommendation is to use POI Loader to create the .gpi file.

After many failures, I think I finally have a working Win 7 installer for EPE. The link can be found on Post #1.

The installer is only required on the first installation and if the program is complaining about missing OCX or other library files. After that, you can only overwrite the installed EPE by the new version.

kudos: I want to thank VersatileGuy for his help in creating this working installer. His knowledge and help were really appreciated. Thanks.

I know some GPS will only support some type of bitmap. My 3750 only supports 256 colors or the bitmap will not show. I need also to check what POI Loader does, but I think it does no conversions.

Right now, if you Export by Category or Symbols (or even filename), you can have one map symbol per category. Just make sure the bitmap is 256 colors (see point above) and that it has the same name as the category (or symbols or filename) and put it in the same folder as the source POI.
Hi Turbo - it's been some time. Did you ever got around looking into this? I never managed to figure out why some bmp's work and others don't. (I checked the Wicki - I don't see any info there?)
Could you perhaps tell us what the requirements (size, colour etc) are for (a) the icon which appears in the "Where To" menu and (b) the map symbols.
Is it possible yet to get the outer edges of the icon one creates, transparent?
I have read through the thread and checked all the posts in this regard, but I’m still not sure what the icons/symbols’ settings should be. I get some to work but others, with what seems the exact same specs, don’t work and I have been unable to figure out what the reason for that is.
    Thanks
