I've been using iGo navigation apps on WinCE devices for many, many years (iGo 2006, iGo 2006SE, iGo 8, iGo Primo, etc). I recently decided to buy an Android head-unit for my car and I'm struggling to figure out which "version" of Nextgen is the "best" for such a device (and in general) - please hear me out...
The Device: The device in an Eonon GA9180A GM-specific Android 8.0 octa-core unit with 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and a 1024x600 resolution capacitive screen.
My understading is that:
1. I cannot use Primo on Android 8.0 (which kind of sucks, since Primo has always been my favorite)
2. So I need to use iGo Primo Nextgen - and I've not familair with it at all - on WinCE or Android
Can someone suggest which version of Nextgen I should start with? I'm going to want to install it on an SD card. I've downloaded a few Nextgen packages, but I have not yet found one that contains all schemes, TTS voices, etc - so if there is a package that includes everything needed, that would be awesome. Otherwise, I'll try to piece things together I guess.
Again - just looking for some recommendations as to which version of Primo your's recommend (I've seen versions such as World, Gift, Basarsoft, etc, etc, etc).
Also - are Primo scheme files compatible with Nextgen?
The TTS setup looks a litle confusing - will have to mess with that. But is there a NNG-specific TTS engine that I can use? I'd really like to keep the familiar Dave, Susan etc if possible. I'm always preferred Loquendo TTS on Primo.
Please help point me in the right direction. :-)
Thank you in advance.
Awesome - thank you very much - that will give me a good starting point. So different than the WinCE world! :-)
Yes, was for me the same. This forum is great. Found all what I need. And if not ask![]()
Man, I wish I could run Primo on Android 8!! I've never been a fan of teh Nextgen interface (everything is too small, IMO - not very car-friendly). Is it still the case that there is no way to get Primo running on Android 8.0? I'd hate to buy a car radio that's already "old" in terms of OS and CPU/RAM, but if I got an Android 7.1 radio, at least I could run Primo... Damn.
All NextGen versions works on Oreo
He just only thought of classic Primo, not NG![]()
Yeah, I've gotten multiple versions of Nextgen running - I'm just not sure i like it. :-) I miss my familiar Primo "classic"....
I am struggling with TTS. I see there is a TTS engine included with Nextgen for Android ("tts_nua_ve1"), but I can't seem to get it working. Is there a way to get TTS working independantly of what TTS system is setup in Android itself? Pico TTS is just horrible and Google TTS doesn't mute the music when it talks. All so confusing for someone used to regular old Primo. :-) I was hoping the "tts_nua_ve1" along with TTS voice files would work like it does in the old Primo, but maybe it's just not that easy?
I'll keep messing with it and eventually figure it out, but if there are any TTS-related tips, I'm all ears.
Thanks for all of your help. I understand the info is out there on the forum *somewhere*, but piecing it all together can be a pain sometimes - just trying to save some time (I don't want to install this unit in the car until I get it all setup and working "on the bench" - otherwise, I have to constantly run back and forth to my car to try stuff.. :-)
